Personal Background

As a child I grew up at my grandparents house a lot where they had a ton of plants. I really enjoyed taking care of the plants with my grandma and learning a bunch from her. I remember thinking how I couldn't wait to have my own plants for my room. As I got older my mom let me keep plants in my room and now most of them are large and blooming. I don't have many but I make sure I keep a close eye on them and give my plants the care they need. I hope to keep growing plants when I'm older and even have my own garden sometime!

Types of Succulents:
Different types of succulent plants come from arid deserts, seaside cliffs and even limbs of steamy jungle trees.  With some exceptions, most large succulent plants are not able to survive hard freezes, but quite a few small and miniature succulents tolerate down into the teens. Succulent types can range from individuals to spreading colonies, and from tall to tiny, plump to wispy, and with or without spiny thorns. Within each type there are often succulent varieties with amazing differences in leaf shape or color. Some succulents can even be edible including the young paddle-like leaves and sweet, plum-like fruits of prickly pear, and many more.

Types of cacti:
The 'Lava Cactus', which is found on the Galapagos Islands, survives only in the harsh environment of the lava fields. It is one of the first plants to establish itself on lava that flows out and cools after a fresh volcanic eruption. Cactus are found in many shapes and sizes and can survive in diverse habitats. We generally believe cacti only thrive in an arid desert-like environment but, many cacti have rainforests too as their natural habitat.

Growth

Growth of Aloe :
5/3/18- Aloe plants should be planted in a wide plant with soil that is well drained. When plants aloe buds make sure to give space between them. These plants should be placed in light or under a light and have the room 55-80 degrees. Make sure not to give your plant too much light or they will start to die out. Aloe plants like to be watered deeply but not until the soil is dried out. If you over water an aloe plant too much it will die easily. Watering an aloe plant around every three weeks is good and in winter even less. If you are planning on leaving your aloe plant outside, make sure you take into consideration your climate because aloe plants can freeze.

Growth of Succulents:
5/4/18- When looking for succulent plants make sure to look for ones with no damage or bugs/disease around the plant.  Once you have your plant and are ready to plant it put it in well-drained soil because succulents like to be dry. You can practically plant a succulent in any type of pot if it has a hole in the bottom and can drain the water out. Succulents with leaves that pucker aren’t getting enough water and ones with soggy leaves are holding onto too much water. Get into a regular watering schedule to help plants thrive. Succulents love light and can be in the sun for 6-8 hours. Make sure you keep an eye on your succulents and pick off dead leaves if needed or keep maintenance up
Growth of Cactus:
5/4/18- Strong light is essential for healthy cacti, especially in the winter. During the active growth period, cacti prefer hot, dry temperatures, ranging from 70 F to more than 80 F. In the winter, the plants prefer a cooler period, down to 55 F. In the spring and summer, when the plant is actively growing and blooming or both, water whenever the soil begins to dry. During these watering's, make sure the plant is thoroughly watered. During the winter barely water the plant for a rest period. Pot into a fast-draining cacti mix.  Cacti are slow-growing plants and will rarely need re-potting.
